5 Little Updates

For the little people in your life. (And their rooms, bookshelves and wardrobes.)

1. Box shelves

The sweetest way to display their (or your) treasures. We love these from Ferm Living.  I love the idea of papering the backs with lovely wallpaper – or grouping several together to make a wall-mounted dollshouse. (Note: this would also be something those of a more DIY friendly disposition could easily achieve. One of the lovely girls i work with is pregnant with her first baby and her nursery plans sound wonderful. She spotted these shelves at Rockett St George, but has persuaded her nimble-fingered husband to make a set himself.)

2. This coat

Because it is waterproof. And cosy. Plus the hood is removable. And that sprigged print is Liberty-esque. My daughter’s current favourite coat.

3. Pretty much anything from Little Bird by Jools

Floral print skirt, £14; Floral all-in-one, £10; Check shirt, £10-£12, all Little Bird by Jools at Mothercare

This range just gets better. We love the gorgeously retro styling (and, sorry to sound like your granny, the quality). Warning pregnant friends: if you have a girl, that all-in-one is likely to be heading your way.

4. This H&M rug

I feel I have indulged in insufficient waxing lyrical when it comes to H&M Home. Honestly, there is so much to love. This rug would be perfect for a nursery – or a child’s room. It’s neutral, dark – and thus practical – and features stars. What more do you want from me?

5. A world tour

Kind of. This brilliant sticker book meets create-your-own-panorama meets educational romp through different environments is both beautiful and useful. The illustrations are wonderful. It should, in theory, keep small people occupied for, oh, 20 minutes. (The Tate online bookshop is well worth checking out: any child starting school would love this, and if your child is as scooter-obsessed as mine, then this is a must-read.)
