Designer, former rock chick and mother of four (Daisy, Alfie, Frankie and Betty), it only feels right that Pearl should have her own range of whimsical childrenswear (read more about it here). It also feels entirely suitable for her to share her parenting wisdom.
1. Choose your battles.
It’s so easy to have a argue about the little things. But in my experience, there are always going to be bigger issues that you need to tackle. So choose your battles carefully. You don’t want to be a nag constantly.
2. Let them learn their own lessons
Kids have their own guidance system, so what might work for you doesn’t necessarily work for them. So let them learn their own lessons in life. I’m always trying to protect my children, but sometimes it good for them to go through a bit of hardship: it’s what helps them grow.
3. Don’t spoil them!
I’m definitely responsible for this one! Although it doesn’t do kids any favours as they get older. In our house, we have started a points system, which works so well. If the kids want to buy something, they have to earn it first.
4. Be an example!
I think it’s so important to practise what you preach. I will often tell the kids to do not be on their screens so much, but then they look at me and I’m on my screen.
5. Always be polite and treat people how you’d like to be treated.
I have always instilled compassion in my children; to be kind and see the good in everyone. If I see them treating one of their friends unkindly, then I make sure they know how it feels to be the victim. I will voice my views until they’re heard.
