The Buys of Summer: Planning Ahead

At this rate, summer will be upon us before I’ve finished the last of the children’s Easter eggs. I swear it was January about five minutes ago, and now it’s Easter and we are very much hoping for sunshine and chocolate for everyone. (Mine’s a packet of mini eggs or a Buttons egg #retroandunashamed.) And so we can all get ahead, I’ve rounded up some gorgeous early summer buys you need to get your hands on right now.

Last weekend (The One With The Unseasonal High Temperatures) got me thinking about my summer wardrobe. After last year’s pretty-but-largely-soggy UK holiday, we are going away not once but twice this summer. All the clapping hand emojis for that one. The first one is creeping up on us (Corsica in May half term; just after I celebrate A Certain Birthday. Yes. That one.) and I am already spying things to pack. Because she who hesitates panics the night before departure and I do NOT intend to do this with a hangover.

A basket is a no-brainer (as is a hat and SPF 50. Am not getting any younger….) Use it as carry-on for the journey and then as a beach/day bag on holiday – effortless chic and convenience in one. If you’re going to take a bag for the evening – make it an easy breezy raffia clutch: this one would also work for day and with either this heavenly lace top (do NOT buy all them all before I have a chance to snap one up, please) or the gorgeous dress.  There are two indulgences here: the Lois Avery scarf (Alex and I have seen the collection and it’s the most glorious cashmere you’ll ever handle) and the Ancient Greek sandals. But they’ll last and last – taking you through summer after summer

Please note how tonal this all is: this really does simplify – and streamline – your packing and your holiday wardrobe. Because who wants to make decisions other than ‘which beach to lie on today’ and ‘which wine to drink’ when on holiday?

P.S. Pun completely intended. Just in case you were wondering.

Clockwise from top left: Straw floppy hat, £20, Topshop; Lace top, £59, Monsoon; Straw basket, £55, The White Company; Denim cut offs, £45, Boden; Ancient Greek Sandals, £150, Net-a-Porter; Straw clutch, £17.99, Mango; Italian days scarf in sea, £125, Lois Avery; Dress, £55, Toms/& Other Stories
