Bored of your winter wardrobe? Ready for the new season? Well, join the club. With payday just around the corner, we are very excited that new season collections from the likes of Hush, Me + Em, Whistles and Boden are starting to drop…..
Ok, so don’t get too excited as it is early days and these aren’t the main collections with the killer pieces. Brands are bringing out what they call ‘pre-collections’ or what we call the early bits of spring/summer. There are a lot of staples, a lot of wardrobe cornerstones and a few pieces that you’d do well to nab now before they sell out….
Hush is a Wear & Where favourite. Easy, flattering every day wear with a few ‘wow’ gems thrown in, the arrival of a new collection is always a tick in our books. Isn’t this jumper (above) gorgeous? Embroidered with flowers, it’s the very definition of spring. And, very wearable too. I tried this pink sweatshirt on in John Lewis and really liked it, the puff sleeves and the hue are really fab. And, is it any surprise that Hush have brought back their classic ‘Love’ jumper?
This dress (above) is so cute and such an easy throw on for dashing to the shops, school or to a friend’s. I would wear, as above, with trainers in the spring/summer. I also like the look of this wide-leg jumpsuit, which resembles a dress and could be dressed up to look smart for meetings or down for a low-key lunch. In the same pinstripe are these culottes, which would be really versatile. Throw on a tee and trainers/sandals for everyday or dress up with heels and a smart top for work or going out. A really work-hard piece.
Me + Em
Me + Em is our go-to for beautifully-cut, quality clothes with a minimalist twist. It’s grown-up dressing and the quality is always excellent. The layering shirts are absolutely genius. A staple to every collection, this season sees this beautiful spotted tulle one with a ruffled collar and tulle sleeves. It will look stunning under any knit. I also like the look of this ruffled silk shirt, which would stand the test of any important meeting or smart lunch. Then there’s this cashmere jumper, which comes in four colour ways – the hot pink is my favourite.
Me + Em was one of the athleisure pioneers. It’s a trend that’s still going strong and I have these side-stripe joggers in another colour way. They are so comfortable, haven’t bagged at the knee and look great with heels as well as trainers. Of course, you could take two trends and meld them together beautifully. This is what’s happened with these check trousers with two side stripes. Cropped at the ankle, they are just gorgeous (below). There is also a matching jacket, which you could either wear together as a suit or wear separately with jeans. I have to admit, I’m probably not brave enough to do the suit, but on the right person it would look fabulous.
Boden is AMAZING for shoes. Honestly amazing. Great quality and great design. These pointed red loafers (also available in metallic rose gold) would look fabulous with cropped jeans. And, how candy-popping incredible are these pink jewelled flats? It’s like Willy Wonka gone wild. Who wouldn’t be happy staring down at those all day? It’s also a good brand for coats. This navy and white textured dress coat is very similar to the sell-out Zara one from a few years back. It would look great over jeans with a white tee.
This shirt (above) would be a great wardrobe staple with stripes and bell sleeves that add a touch of interest to a great every day item. Silk shirts are also always worth having. This navy spotted one is lovely and comes in a dog print if you’re looking for something quirky. Whilst this white broderie one is very pretty and very Natasha. Another staple is the Breton top. This one offers a variation on a theme with cool contrasting cuffs. Finally, this jumper (below) comes in navy, hot pink and grey. The contrasting cuffs are fab as is the rainbow stripe down the back. Top tip? Natasha always sizes up as Boden sweaters can be a little fitted.
A new parka may not scream warmer days and spring flowers to you, but come on! We live in the UK! A parka is basically a year-round option, and this one is very stylish, very well-made and a good buy for £189 (I’m not saying that it’s cheap, but it will last and looks great). I’m a sucker for a French slogan and this C’est La Vie sweatshirt in lovely bright red is on my wish list. I’m also a sucker for a jumpsuit and Whistles do great ones. This short sleeved, crop legged one is fabulous. I wish I had a wedding or an amazing party to go to as this dress (below) is so beautiful. In navy with yellow splashes of colour, I wish I could justify buying it! It also comes in an equally gorgeous jumpsuit. A less dressier dress is this shirt dress, which looks fantastic, as styled, with ankle boots. I’d add black tights or wear with bare legs and trainers in the spring.
