There I was idly finishing off the Easter chocolate and flicking though my mail, when I picked up the latest Boden catalogue. Well, I had to put that chocolate down instantly – and not just because I was feeling sick – no, this season’s collection is so good, so summery, so covetable, that I had to tell you all about it instantly….
Boden has twigged that after a long, grey winter, we are all craving colour. And not just that, pattern and colour! The collection has all the basics – Bretons, work shirts etc, but there is also a deliciously gleeful amount of pattern clashing, colour clashing, pom pommed wonderfulness. It’s a very contemporary collection – arguably their most contemporary collection to date, and I love it. So here it is, my shopping list. There’s a lot on site, which I haven’t mentioned below, so pull up a chair and get ready to trawl the site. Or just look at my highlights, I love them all….(and just so you’re sure, Boden don’t have a clue we’re writing this and it’s not an ad! We always say if it is.)
DRESSES & JUMPSUITS
The first thing which caught my eye was this beautiful Marla dress (top picture). I really am in love. A very wearable take on the boho trend, it’s just made for summer. I love the slightly bell sleeves, which add a touch of boho, as do the tassels and the embroidery. I’ve added it to my shopping list whilst banishing all thoughts of practicality from my mind (it’s just too pretty to say no to). It also comes in a top version if you’d prefer that. This tie waist shirt dress is a really versatile piece. I love how it’s been styled in the pic above with sandals and tassel necklaces, but you could also smarten it up for work with a chunky necklace and courts or high heels. And how *$*Y’ing amazing is this jumpsuit (above)? The colour is so bright and gorgeous, the trousers are wide and flattering and the blouse section so pretty. It’s a win-win for me. Finally, if you’re off to a wedding, how about this midi dress with blouson sleeves or this sleeveless jumpsuit in wow red or chic navy? You’ll be a contender for the best-dressed guest award for sure.
Boden seem to have gone a bit Tory Burch this year with some really lovely kaftans (this is most definitely a good thing). This one above is almost my favourite and is basically summer holidays in a top. Wear over a tan on the beach or with jeans in the UK. However, this other one is also jostling for top position as I can never say no to a tassel. If you prefer pom poms to tassels, then how about this? When it’s warm enough to bare arms, can I recommend this top? The neckline is very flattering if you’re conscious of your clavicle area and, once again, makes shoulders look great. The pattern is also quite Liberty-esq too.
Away from high summer tops, there are some shirts, which also caught my eye. I love the ruffles on this blouse (above) and think it looks amazing with the red trousers – whoever did Boden styling this season deserves a pay rise!
Boden do amazing shoes, I’ve talked about them before. The quality, fit and style is always top notch. Heels tend to come in two heights, which is a really nice touch. There are a lot of sandals and heels (leopard print ones are great) on site, but it’s these flats that have caught my eye. I’d wear them with rolled up jeans from now until October. I also love these in hot pink.
Boden are also very good at swimsuits. I bought a version of this in the sale a few years ago and it’s lasted really well. The cut is ridiculously flattering as the band around the middle gives the illusion of a thinner waist and the halter neck is a wonderful shape for the shoulders. However, I have my eye on this flamingo one for the summer, which also comes as a bikini. This ruched swimsuit looks rather flattering and fabulous too.
