5 of the best scrubs without microbeads

Rub-a-dub-dub, we love a good scrub (your skin really thanks you for it), but what we don't love are all those tiny little microbeads that pollute the seas and kill all the fish. Definitely not cool. So whilst many face and body scrubs do contain microbeads, many - very good ones, in fact - don't, which means that you can happily carry on exfoliating safe in the knowledge that you are one totally eco-friendly beauty queen. Here's our pick of the best...…

5 ways to get the glow

Now I'd love to say that looks don't matter. That it's what's on the inside that counts, which is all well and true, but there are times when I just wish my skin just looked a teensy bit better. Less 'gosh you look tired' and more 'I'll have what she's having!' which is why I've embarked on my own personal mission to Get A Glow. Or at least look a bit better and less like a stressed, grey person who Really Needs A Trip To The Maldives. And whilst I may still Really Need a Trip To The Maldives, I think I may have discovered some ways to get *that* glow...…

Sunday Riley: the cult brand your skin is going to love

Now, my skin isn’t so bad that I have to leave the house with a bag over my head, but let’s face it, it could do better. Less of the congestion, not-so-fine lines, dullness and dryness and we could have a much happier relationship. Which is why, after a winter of waking up feeling dry and looking, quite frankly, TERRIFYING in the morning, I decided that enough was enough, and headed in pursuit of one of the hottest cult skincare lines on the block: Sunday Riley….…

The fine-hair fix: 5 steps to better hair

Hello. My name is Alex and I’m the owner of Really Bad Hair. We’re talking fine. We’re talking fly-away. We’re talking prone to frizz. And, after several pregnancies (thanks hormones!) were talking regrowth, which likes to stand on end and wave ‘hello!’ just so everyone knows it’s there. But, finally (finally!) I’ve found a 5 step solution that seems to be helping……

How to….look good the morning after

So, we’ve got your night out covered, thanks to Natasha’s fab Christmas party wear post and even what to wear the morning after, but c’mon, what on earth are we going to do with that face? If you, like me, are more ‘hangover beast’ than ‘beauty’, then you’ll be needing some help. And whilst, we’re not advocating trowelling on a trolley load of make-up, we do have a few fail-safe products up our sleeves. Oh yes, these products will sort those drink-induced/sleep-deprived/new baby dark circles and make you look like a young Kate Moss even after a Kate Moss-style night out……

This is England…

I’ve been meaning to write about this company for a while, ever since I first came across a bottle of their deliciously-scented products at a friend’s house last October……

My Beauty Uniform: Camilla

It’s a welcome back for our Beauty Uniform today. Alex and I were chatting about this, and we realised that – much as we love asking industry insiders about their beauty know-how – on a day-to-day basis, it’s our friends we turn to for beauty tips: how do you get your skin looking that good? How on earth are your limbs that silky-smooth? What’s the elixir of youth? That kind of thing. With this in mind, I knew exactly who I wanted to ask/badger into revealing her secrets: my friend Camilla Marsh. We become friends when she and her husband Tom moved opposite us (we won the neighbour lottery that day) – and then she had her gorgeous little girl, Matilda, not long after I had my little boy. So, much of my maternity leave was spent hanging out with these two girls – and not once have I seen Camilla look less than immaculate. Part of this is innate (I’ve seen her mum – ditto on the immaculate front); part of it is down to her being lovely on the inside, too (it definitely counts); and part of it is her job. Camilla has worked for two of the…

Would you have a boob job?

What do you think about boob jobs? Unnecessary, unfeminist and not for a woman like you? Or, do you secretly (or not-so-secretly) hanker after one? When a friend announced that she was having one last summer I was fascinated. Whilst I know people who’ve dabbled with botox and a couple who’ve admitted to nose jobs, I didn’t think I knew anyone who’d done anything more. Why did she have it done? Will it open the floodgates to having more procedures? What does her husband think? And most importantly, was it worth it? If you’ve ever wondered what type of woman actually has a boob job, then read on, you might be surprised……

The Beauty Insider’s Monthly Miracles: English Mineral Makeup

If you’re anything like us, what you want from your beauty experts is not reams of columns about their experience at a gazillion pound a week spa nestled in a remote mountainside a 20 hour flight away. No, what you want to know is what works. Fortunately, beauty editor and our Beauty Insider Rachel Fiddes is a like-minded girl. There’s so much choice out there that the brain boggles – so with her new series, Monthly Miracles, Rachel presents her edit of the best. Granted, these products won’t always be super-cheap, but they will be worth investing in and they will WORK. Read on for her first hot tip……

Can you mix sunscreen with moisturiser? Do you really need a different one for your face? The truth about sunscreen…

As Beauty Editor of US Vogue, Daisy Garnett tried a lot of products – as she revealed in last Sunday’s issue of Stella magazine. But she says, “testing all those face creams taught me that the only way to keep your skin young-looking is to apply sunscreen every single day (ageing-looking skin is basically just sun-damaged skin).” I never used to do this. I always applied cream whilst sat out for a long time in the park or on a beach or around a pool (sadly, this doesn’t happen quite as much as I’d like it these days), but just for walking around in the daytime, not so much. Not anymore. Despite the fact that I love a tan, I am now a firm convert to applying sunscreen every day. Following some concern over a mole (thankfully ok) and the realisation that I am getting on a bit, I have become a sunscreen aficionado. Of course, some of you may think that I am crazy for not having always done this, but better late than never, eh? Anyway, with my new found addiction to cream, I discovered some questions. For instance, is it ok to mix your morning moisturiser with…
