How to….look good the morning after

So, we’ve got your night out covered, thanks to Natasha’s fab Christmas party wear post and even what to wear the morning after, but c’mon, what on earth are we going to do with that face? If you, like me, are more ‘hangover beast’ than ‘beauty’, then you’ll be needing some help. And whilst, we’re not advocating trowelling on a trolley load of make-up, we do have a few fail-safe products up our sleeves. Oh yes, these products will sort those drink-induced/sleep-deprived/new baby dark circles and make you look like a young Kate Moss even after a Kate Moss-style night out……

#4weekstilChristmas: Decorating

This is it folks. We’re standing on the threshold of December. The festive season is nearly upon us – and I, for one, am ready to embrace it with open arms. Christmas: come on in. The Great Tree Dilemma is currently the hot topic du jour in my house. We have a very enquiring, exceedingly mobile 15 month old. We also like our trees to be BIG. Chances of him pulling it over? Do we sally forth regardless or get something rather smaller and raise it up? Once we’ve solved this minor issue, here’s how we’ll be decorating……

How to Decorate Your Home for Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And so it should, given that we are but three sleeps away. But if you and your home are still not feeling sufficiently festive, then we have some brilliant, simple tips courtesy of the lovely and very talented Ruth from All for Love who has very kindly written this for us in between Christmasifying (it should be a word) venues across London, winter weddings, making what must number hundreds of wreaths and running her pop-up shop in my neighbourhood (long may she remain popped up). Here are her top five (with one for luck) tips to ensure your house wears its Christmas jumper.…

How to massage your baby

A few weeks ago little A and I had a baby massage how-to session with the wonderful Caroline Barber. As a doula and baby massage expert, she has the magic touch; just being in her presence makes mamas and babies feel calm. She is full of wonderful tips and advice: from calming crying babies to dealing with common issues (wind, teething…) with massage. She also runs baby yoga classes from her home. Both my friend and I found the class super-helpful for wind and tummy-related issues – and I’ve made a daily massage part of the bath and bed ritual (sometimes the three-year-old ‘helps’ or accompanies me on a teddy). So I asked Caroline to share some of her top tips with us here……

How to…ward off a cold

This morning the sun may be shining, but basically, it’s here isn’t it? That cold, wet and dark time of year when the lurgy is lurking around every corner. Or at least, it feels like that when every small person’s nose you see is a snotty one and the shops/ tube/streets are full of people coughing, sneezing and spreading germs. Urghh. Because I hate being ill (being a patient is not my forte) and I hate my children being ill, I’m going to throw everything I have at keeping healthy this year. Mornings will be kickstarted with a shot of green juice (more on this to come), sleep will be welcomed like a long-lost friend and meals will be chocca-bloc full of vitamin-packed veggies (or at least this is the plan). Helping me in my quest for a winter-free of bone-numbing colds and throat-scratching coughs is the amazing Henrietta Norton, nutritionist and founder of the Wild Nutrition range of supplements. From her top immune-boosting foods to her thoughts on children’s supplments and tips on what to do when you feel that cold coming on, here’s what she has to say……

How to…work with a friend

Working with a friend sounds great, right? But, is it all laughter and shared dreams or is there a downside? It’s been so far, so good for me and Natasha, but we were keen to find out how other friends have fared when they’ve gone into business together. Lauren Skerritt (picture above on the left) and Poppy Sexton-Wainwright of gorgeous lingerie brand ASCENO by Beautiful Bottoms met in their first year of university, going on to set up their business just a year later. Five years on and the brand has gone from strength to strength, expanding into swim and lounge wear with 100 wholesale clients and stocked in stores such as Selfridges, Liberty and Holt Renfrew. So, just how did they do it?…
