The Soho Hotel: can a hip hotel ever be family-friendly?

I may have mentioned more than once that I used to be a Travel Editor. I may also have mentioned that my life is remarkably different now. Where once there were glamorous press trips, exotic adventures and nights in stunning hotels that were so amazing they made me cry tears of PURE JOY, there's now the school run, head lice and rainy Cornwall during the summer holidays. But, that's not to say that I've lost my love or appreciation of a wonderful hotel. Oh no, no, no, I might just appreciate them even more. But are the kind of hotels that I love (you know, luxurious, stylish, 100% grown-up great) compatible with the kind of people for whom Lego is more important than the way the bartender mixes the martinis? Thankfully, when it comes to London's Soho Hotel, the answer is YES. My children, somewhat horrifyingly appreciate a luxury hotel just as much as I do (to which, I simultaneously say Hurrah! and 'It's only downhill from here folks.') And when I took my six-year old on a trip to London to see Matilda and stay at The Soho Hotel, we discovered that not only is it great for grown-ups,…

Whether you hit Stockholm, head to an island or lounge around by the sea, you’re in for a good time……

Insider’s guide to Corfu: with kids or without kids, just go…

One of the world's all-time favourite holiday destinations, Corfu is the sun-drenched Greek Island famed not only as the setting for Gerald Durrell's My Family and Other Animals, but also as a place of gorgeous beaches, beautiful scenery and stunning coastal views over the glittering Mediterranean. Inspired by pictures of her ridiculously amazing villa Agnos House (available to rent this summer through Scott Williams), we turned to Interior Designer Looby Crean, who has been visiting Corfu for years and is an expert on what to do and where to go on this most idyllic of Greek islands. If you're going this summer, read on for her hot tips and to discover how she transformed the house into a stunning home. If not, read on, be inspired and book for next year! You won't regret it....…

Design inspiration: The Kitchin, Edinburgh

We don’t normally feature restaurants, but when W&W collaborator Emily Murray, founder of our new favourite interiors site The Pink House, told us about The Kitchin, we just had to know more. Not only is the food amazing, but the design is pure rustic luxe – and most importantly, just the kind of thing that’s possible to steal inspiration from and recreate at home. We particularly love the silver birch panels and mini-stools just for your handbag……

3 new UK hotels for 2016

There are few things I love more than a gorgeous boutique hotel. They're almost up there on a par with my children (I'm kidding, I'm kidding...or am I?!) Which is why, I am extremely excited about the prospect of these three new beauties opening this Spring. Two (The Pig at Combe and The Painswick) come from bonafide leaders in the boutique hotel field, whilst the third (Thyme) looks so darn lovely, we are sure it's a classic in the making. And, what's that? An opening offer for one of them of £99 per night? Yup, it's too good to ignore.... …

Time to book a holiday? 3 great villas for a sun-filled summer escape

Looks good, huh? Maybe just a teensy bit better than what you’re doing right now? (*stares out of window at the grey rain-sodden sky and returns with a sob to her computer*) If so, why not make it a reality? With the weather being quite frankly unreliable, I am seriously craving proper sunshine and when an email about hot new villa company Oliver’s Travels popped into my inbox, I was all over it like a skinny fashionista at the Chanel sample sale. With 2000 properties on their books and clients spending an average of £39 per person, per night, the villas aren’t only gorgeous (we’re talking converted windmills, trulli and glass houses), but also not break-the-bank expensive and great for big family gatherings or groups of friends travelling together. Here are 3 that I’m currently dreaming of….…
