Instant home update: cool cushions chosen by Interior Designer Laura Stephens

“Show me a woman who doesn’t love cushions and I’ll show a cat who won’t drink milk,” the wise man so didn’t say. But you get the picture. Cushions are just THE business when it comes to injecting a little pizazz into your room.”I can’t get enough of scatter cushions,” agrees Laura Stephens, our go-to girl for all things interiors-related. “So easy to change up your look, soften a room and inject colour. And the best thing is you can buy gorgeous cushions to freshen up a tired room, or neutral sofa without spending a fortune….” Here are some of the best she’s come across recently….

“The trend for an Ikat print continues. I love the way you can introduce a relaxed pattern and inject a pop of colour with ikat cushions. The one above is from (£49-£59).”

Jennifer Manners does amazing rugs but she has just started a new line in gorgeous silk Ikat cushions…. Admittedly, a bit pricier but would completely lift a neutral sofa or armchair. £125

Velvet cushions add a real sense of luxe without spending a fortune to get a luxury look. A little known fact is that does large 55cm x 55cm sized cushions in any of their fabrics for as little as £40. I love their velvets in these stunning colours:

Birdie Fortescue also does lovely velvet cushions- this dove grey one comes in a generous size and linen backed is gorgeous for a more laid back feel.

I can’t get enough of these pretty block print cushions from Birdie Fortescue. I’ve recently used them to build a scheme in my daughter’s room. They look very Scandinavian. fresh and pretty against a white back drop, and again well priced. From £34.95

Pink is another trend which refuses to go away. Whilst for many a pink sofa or pink walls maybe a step too far, a pop of pink on a cushion is a great way to inject some feminine colour without committing wholly to the pink craze. these are some of my favourites …..

This Holly’s House fluoro pink cushion would look amazing on a grey sofa…£64

Another gorgeous pink combined with the latest trend in jungle print (and I love the black and white trim!) £70

I love the boho look of this and the citrine detail… £32 (cover only)

Finally, these are a few sweet options for kids rooms…
