Fifty Shades of Grey

image1xxl-1

May the gods of fashion strike me down, but I prefer grey to black. It’s softer, more flattering – I’d much rather wrap myself in a dove grey knit than stark black. Lucky for me, then, that head to toe grey is so very this season. Take this look from Asos: easy slouchy trousers and a chunky knit. Perfect. I love that grey can be incredibly uptown chic and pulled-together…

And it also makes a more casual look sing. (Yep, trainers totally work. Note the box-fresh white numbers here.)

The other thing I love about this trend? (Other than it’s flattering properties.) It’s such an easy one to adopt. Start with a grey jumper…

I also like this cashmere jumper from Whistles – the popper back is a nice touch; this merino wool jumper from Gap – I own a lighter version and am tempted to invest in this, too (such great quality – I once had breakfast with one of the Gap PR team and she asked if it was John Smedley); and this simple crew neck from M&S (my friend Sarah, who has an eagle eye for quality and a smart investment, swears by their cashmere). Alex and I also both own this dark grey jumper from hush (we love it – it really is the perfect jumper):

I once had the perfect pair of grey trousers. I bought them at the very end of the sale from Paul & Joe. They were super-slim, with a cropped leg which sat just at the ankle. They worked with flats and heels. I adored them. I also wore them to death – I was forced to concede defeat when the bottom wore through. I am now on the hunt for a new pair.

I quite like the idea of going All Out and adding a scarf. Head to hush for cloud-soft cashmere or this rather splendid lace stitch shawl which I have (yes, I am addicted) – I love wearing it looped around and tied at a jaunty angle.
