As I write this, we are enjoying a weirdly warm spell in London (just in time for term to start…), but I love the promise of autumn: the crunch of leaves underfoot, crisp mornings, new school shoes (or just new shoes), Strictly, the promise of evenings curled up in front of the fire. I am feeling particularly back-to-school-ish this year.
A new notebook
I have long had an obsession with notebooks. A trip to Liberty’s stationery department makes me a happy woman. I have them tucked into every bag, on my bedside table, beside me as I type. You never know when you might need one. Lists. Ideas. Nightmares (literally). I love everything by Kikki K, Papier (for its personalised service) and Studio Sarah.

A new desk lamp
Because who is a fan of overhead lighting? And lamps should be stylish as well as functional.
A little bit of desk bling
And by ‘bling’ I really mean ‘whatever rocks your boat’. My essentials include: flowers, something to hold my paperwork/invites/letters, a candle, and an extra. A gilded pineapple, for instance. A pretty bowl for paperclips. Whatever takes your fancy.
Annick Goutal Petite Cherie, £45, John Lewis
Autumn candle, £20, The White Company
Okay, so this is really a whole other post for another time. But my little girl has new shoes, so… (Oh, how I will miss her when she is back at school. We have fallen into such a happy rhythm and her confidence has blossomed, as has the love-fest between her and her brother deepened.) Please can I just mention these? A total bargain and would work for work, play and weekend…
