Decorating your home is enormous fun. It can also be enormously expensive. Unless you are now squinting at the screen, thinking ‘budget, what is this ‘budget’ thing?’ – in which we case, we salute and envy you – then you need W&W’s week of shopping the homes’ sales. Kicking off with one of our favourites: The White Company.
New bed linen and new stationery: two things guaranteed to strike joy into our hearts. I am adding the Brittany quilts and cushion covers to my shopping basket as I type. The pom poms! The ticking backing! I want them! The patchwork Burford quilt and cushions have real charm – just the cushion would instantly cheer up your bedroom. It’s not too late to give your bedroom a blue-and-white-striped summer makeover – with the Portreath collection (40% off!) If you love a hotel-sleek-and-simple bed, there’s 50% off the Cadiz collection – ditto the pretty Broderie Anglaise bedding (both now from £10). I love the classic Santorini (now from £31.50) with its ladder stitch detail. If you don’t own a mattress topper – can I persuade you that now is the time to invest (now from £64): I promise you it makes a difference. Whilst you’re there – do check out the children’s bedding: the Rose Garden is 40% off (now from £27 for a quilt), as is the Star print set, which would work in many a child’s bedroom.
Now is also the time to buy towels. (I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price for towels.) Replace those hard, oft-washed, slightly scratchy ones (or demote them to guest-only. Sorry guests) with a pile of softness. Egyptian cotton from £9.20? Don’t mind if I do. Although I might be swayed by the Salcombe Stripe… When it’s hot, I switch to hamman towels – light, easy, dry at speed, I can pretend I’m in Morocco for a brief moment (and not about to embark upon the madness of the pre school routine): get your hands on some from just £5.60. The classic Antibes bath mat (another staple in this house) also has 30% off.
I can’t mention The White Company and not mention fragrance. The glorious Rose and Iris collections (in their sleek, matt white casing) are reduced by 30% – choose from a diffuser (now £22.40) or candle (now £18.20) N.B. If you are one of those efficient people who buy presents in the sales – these would also make excellent presents, as would the White Pomelo hand cream (now £11.20). *TEACHER GIFT ALERT*
Sales are also the time to invest in zhuzhifying details (totally a thing). I love this 12 aperture frame and you can never have enough baskets – this one is a treat. Your weekday suppers will thank you for new napkins: how about blue or striped? A new vase of flowers makes pretty much any room look better – and this one looks beautiful even when empty. I also want to hang several of these glass tealight holders around my garden on balmy nights. Who doesn’t need more space to hang things – those hamman towels on this wooden rail, perhaps?
