How to…dress like you mean business

Shot-15-005Here’s a question: what does the professional woman wear to work where she a. wants to be taken seriously (yes, I’m afraid this is still a problem in some arenas; or perhaps not a problem but a necessity) but b. wants to look fashion-forward at the same time? This is the problem which faced Polly McMaster. She was a successful city businesswoman who spotted a gap in the market. She’s now the co-founder of  The Fold, a brand designed by women for women. Stylist Lynda Bell and I had a sneak peek the other week at the new collection – and it is well worth seeking out. These are proper investment pieces. I don’t work in the city, but I am a-hankering after several pieces, this tweed dress, for instance; this for day-to-evening… I could go on – but instead I will hand over to the ever-fabulous Lynda Bell, today’s guest star, who is here to talk us through the new limited edition collection – and how to style them.

[A note to all the professional women out there: you need The Fold in your life. (Were I in the business of dedicating posts – I would dedicate this to all the fabulous female barristers I have met through my husband.]

The Fold is a successful story of ambition, female attitudes and classic feminine style. At the helm, sits Polly McMaster, who co-founded The Fold after frustrating attempts to find stylish feminine and inspirational clothing for professional women.  “The Fold is about understanding the professional woman’s needs in her daily life and trying to create a stylish, contemporary wardrobe for them, but particularly focused around work.”

To add to the latest A/W collection of stylish dresses featuring slash necks, dropped waists and  leather details, beautiful fabric detailed tops and (new for this season) a perfect winter coat; The Fold have launched their first collaboration with Britt Lintner consisting of 5 dresses inspired by (and named after) 5 equally inspiring women (you can see them about and read all about them on the site). “There is a lot of synergy between work and fashion – these dresses are our armour. When you feel good, you thrive”.

These dresses, along with their name-sakes, are inspiring and classic beauties. They follow the ethos of The Fold fashion, which is to build a capsule wardrobe which you don’t have to think too much about each morning, but you know you will look and feel as powerful and strong as you want to be.
