5 ways to get the glow

 

Now I’d love to say that looks don’t matter. That it’s what’s on the inside that counts, which is all well and true, but there are times when I just wish my skin just looked a teensy bit better. Less ‘gosh you look tired’ and more ‘I’ll have what she’s having!’ which is why I’ve embarked on my own personal mission to Get A Glow. Or at least look a bit better and less like a stressed, grey person who Really Needs A Trip To The Maldives. And whilst I may still Really Need a Trip To The Maldives, I think I may have discovered some ways to get *that* glow…

Elemental Herbology

This fab brand was introduced to me a few months ago and I have been testing out their Cell Nourish Radiance and Vitality serum and Facial Soufflé night cream ever since. I’m a big fan of serums and oils as they give that extra layer of moisture that skin craves. I was pleased to discover that the Cell Nourish serum is fabulous, stuffing the skin full of vitamins, proteins and anti-oxidants and leaving it well-moisturised and soft. I use it in the mornings before my moisturiser and do think it’s made a difference in terms of softness and radiance. The night cream is equally good. It took a while to get used to the heavy texture (I generally prefer lighter creams), but actually now, I really like it and again my skin feels well-nourished and not at all dry in the mornings. I also don’t look like a zombie first thing – which is always a bonus!

James Read Sleep Mask Tan

I picked this up in one of those M&S beauty boxes you get when you spend a certain amount of money and have been really pleased with it. It’s VERY subtle, in so far as you don’t really notice a difference after one application, but if you use it quite regularly, it really gives you a nice, natural tan. No chance of being mistaken for a TOWIE extra here. Just slip on after your night cream and voila – instatan.

Olio Lusso

While we’re on the subject of my night-time beauty regime (you are fascinated I can tell), I have to mention my all-time favourite beauty product – Olio Lusso. You can read my full review here, but suffice to say it’s the only product I’ve ever used where people have actually commented on my skin. Face oil is an essential (I also like Clarins’ Blue Orchid oil, which is cheaper) and I always use one now. And this, this Olio Lusso is amazing. Expensive, but amazing and it really works.

The Super Elixir

In a bid to get this elusive glow, I started drinking green smoothies when I woke up – you know the thing – Kale, spinach etc etc. They didn’t taste too bad and I’m sure they were very good for me, but I tell you what, what’s the point in having skin which glows if your teeth are green? Yup, that’s what happened, all that green stuff stained my teeth, so I’ve backed off and picked up a packet of Super Elixir instead. With 45 ingredients including herbs, vegetables and enzymes, it was created by the ridiculously healthy-looking Elle Macpherson with her nutritionist Dr Simone Laubscher. And if there’s one thing that Elle Macpherson does – it’s glow. Designed to keep your body within a certain alkaline range, it’s uber nourishing and glow-giving (just think of all those ingredients). It also doesn’t taste too bad and doesn’t give you green teeth. Very important that.

Running

After all these expensive recommendations, I come to a free one. Running. I’ve been a dabbler for years – never hardcore, never too much, never serious – but I’ve always loved running. Not just because you can do it the moment you leave the house. Or because it’s so nice being out – in the park, in a field, along the river –  I love the way it makes me feel and I imagine if I took it up seriously, I’d love the way it makes me look. I also like the way it gets you sweating, giving you a glow that really does last longer than the time it takes you to recover. Having recently had a baby, I haven’t run for a while (make that a long while), but thinking that it’s basically ‘now or never’, I’ve decided to have another stab at doing it properly – which means longer than a 15-minute amble around the park. To get fitter, to be stronger and to get the glow. And so, I am halfway through a brilliant book – Running Like a Girl by Alexandra Heminsley.  Yes, I’m late to the party – it was out a few years ago, but it’s brilliant. ‘Hemmo’ as she’s known is a great writer and someone who sounds like fantastic fun to hang out with. Funny, inspiring and knowledgeable, it’s made me want to run and given me a little bit of know-how on how to do it. Do read it. Even if you don’t want to run, I think you’d like it.

    Loved this post! Was expecting lots of tried & tested self tan reviews but was pleasantly surprised to discover a whole lot of, let’s face it, far healthier and more nourishing glow tips! Super xx
