As founder and Managing Director of luxury jewellery brand Astley Clarke, Bec Astley Clarke is the perfect woman to talk to about style. A firm believer in the power of jewellery to transform an outfit, her daily uniform manages the tricky feat of being smart, yet approachable, stylish, yet un-intimidating. Combining a business brain with an eye for design, Bec has taken Astley Clarke from strength to strength, expanding the brand by working with a select number of talented jewellers and creating her own Astley Clarke collections. Based in London where she lives with her husband, son Thor (4) and daughter Delilah (1), Bec tells us about what she wears and why it works for her…
“I live in jeans. For me, denim is a great neutral so I can wear them with everything and anything. I love being semi-smart so jeans are the dress down part of my outfit and I dress them up with gorgeous silk shirts and super shoes. I probably have about ten pairs in all (in grey, navy, white and dark blue), either skinny or bootleg cut and from 7 for all Mankind and J Brand.
I dress my jeans up with silk shirts and down with plain linen t-shirts. I love silk shirts by 3.1 Phillip Lim, Diane Von Furstenberg and Paul Smith. I buy my t-shirts from Zara, where you can find some great linen ones, and from Zadig & Voltaire. On top, I love to wear small and neat colour block cardigans, which I mix and match depending on my mood.
For meetings, I like to be a little smarter and often wear a dress. I have a few very cool and professional-looking dresses, which are mainly from Joseph. I tend to like shift dresses with a higher neckline as I feel it’s important not to look too ‘sexy’. I also have a beautiful Oscar de la Renta green, knee length dress, which is my ‘go-to’ for smart occasions such as interviews or receptions.

When it comes to shoes, I tend to favour my grey suede Tod’s shoe boots. They have a very high heel, but are super comfortable and great for meetings. I have far too many shoes, of which my two favourite pairs are my Rupert Sanderson blue suede courts and my Alexander McQueen gold heels. I also love Zara for great, every-day heels.
Jewellery starts an outfit as well as completes it. It says who you are immediately. Great jewellery shows that you have a real appreciation for items of value that you will treasure for the rest of your life. A great pair of diamond studs or a tourmaline bracelet will be with you forever. At the moment, I’m wearing an Astley Clarke Biography friendship bracelet, a diamond dot necklace from our Muse collection and my new Astley Clarke Couture Grey Aquamarine ring. However, I also love stacking rings, mixing designs such as a midnight star shower with a Symphony hematite cocktail ring, and I’m a big fan of our Bowie and Skinny bracelets.
To go from day to night, I usually add a statement piece such as some blue sapphire button earrings or an oversized cocktail ring.”
