I know it’s Monday but I type this on a balmy Saturday evening. My husband is putting C to bed. I am making Annie Bell’s Tomato and Basil Lasagne (from Daisy Garnett’s Cooking Lessons). The rose is chilling in the fridge. The sun is setting over the river (not that I can actually see this from my perch at the kitchen table, but I can imagine it). My new baby niece has arrived (and what a peach she is). And more sun is promised and I’m off on a little just-the-three-of-us jaunt to the Ile de Re on Thursday. Life is looking pretty good. (What’s more, Monday is my birthday, so it’s not even a blue day.)
What you really need on a day like this – in footwear terms – is a great pair of sandals. And I’m currently lusting after gold sandals. Not teetering, walk the red carpet in Cannes heels, but chic, simple flats (preferably teamed with brown legs).
My current favourites are these gold and tan numbers from Gap, which have even garnered me a ‘where did you get those?’ on the tube. (The tube! Where no one shall speak!)
These snakeskin beauties would make a perfect birthday present (or just a ‘present to self’). Plus, they would work equally well of an evening.
At this price, these are an absolute bargain. I’d wear them with skinny jeans, rolled up trousers, sundresses, everything. Also, I wouldn’t feel guilt-ridden about wearing them on the beach, and I love the nod to the Grecian.
So, my Mango obsession? Yes, that continues unabated. I bumped into the gorgeous Laura from WIT last week and we were enthusing about how good it is this season. All I can say is: go forth and shop. Start with these….
Absolutely not a sandal, but on a gold theme, is this clutch, which definitely feeds into my summer love of all things boho. It would dress up the plainest outfit beautifully.
