The season of the statement skirt

Want to know what’s the most wearable, the most covetable, the most fabulous item you could have in your wardrobe right now? Well, that would be a statement skirt…

Over the last few months or so, I’ve been noticing a LOT of amazing skirts about. Beautiful, flattering, affordable numbers that often look more expensive than they are and can’t help but attract oohs, ahhhs and ‘where did you get that?s’. Statement skirts – i.e. ones that have a little extra about them be it embellishment, pleats, glitter, a special fabric… – are really easy to wear and often look just as good dressed down (as pictured above) as they do dressed up. Statement skirts feel very modern when worn with trainers and very feminine when paired with heels. Less dressy than a dress, they look great with knits, sweatshirts and tees, but also are suitable for work or smarter situations. There’s also an undoubted Carrie Bradshaw feel to them, which will make anyone who was a fan of SATC instantly feel rather fond of them. So, if you’re looking to buy one thing this month, one thing that really will go with the rest of your wardrobe, then plump for a statement skirt. It could just be the hardest working piece you own.
