Shop the Sales for 2017’s Trends

Hello, and welcome to 2017. How’s the head? (Or am I just imagining that everyone else goes out and in fact you, like us, spent it on the sofa and went to bed early? (With a Lemsip, in my case. Rock. On.) If you’re bright eyed and bushy-tailed, why not reward yourself with a spot of Getting Ahead. Here’s how to shop some of 2017’s biggest trends in the sales. (Clever, no?)

Ruffles

I am delighted to report that the ruffle is here to stay. Well, for the moment anyway. This sweatshirt [above] is reduced to £20 at Warehouse, which makes it a virtually painless (to the bank account) means of being on trend. This lacy white one from La Redoute is so pretty (the 40% off is pretty good, too). This satin blouse would work a treat with jeans or tucked into high-waisted trousers – and this black one is gorgeous. I love this ruffle-neck blouse from Boden (the navy is my favourite but sold out in my size, dammit Janet) – and there’s an extra 10% off sale prices with the code 7W2K). Or how do you like the idea of this jacket over a plain tee?

Yellow

Yellow is, apparently, the new pink. (Again I ask: who decides these things?) Start with this yellow dress from Whistles (this one would be perfect for a summer wedding or party – if you know if you have one coming up). If the idea of a whole actual yellow dress scares you on this grey January day, then try ease yourself in with a bag. Alternatively, here’s a cable knit you can wear now [top] or this asymmetric hem number from Stella McCartney [above] would be The Dream. Boden’s Sienna coat is a treat – I know the grey is chic but, hello, imagine yourself skipping down the street in the yellow come Spring.

Eighties references

Yep, activewear, off-the-shoulder tops, puffball sleeves, slogan tops, maybe even a lurex legging. Oo, and a white blazer and Debbie Gibson-esque earrings. They’re coming for us, people. May I sound a notice of caution and advise against wearing them all at once? Take one piece – like the Ashcroft Blazer [above] now reduced from £219 to £87 at Baukjen, worn over skinny black trousers (you could try the leggings when it gets warmer…). Or maybe try some animal print – this top courtesy of Somerset by Alice Temperley is just the ticket. I can also see the blazer over this zebra print dress. Or a cheeky slogan sweatshirt – or keep it simple with a slogan tee. (Both from the Very Exclusive sale, which is always well worth checking out. Whilst you’re there – this jacket is an excellent nod to the Eighties.) If you didn’t invest in an off-the-shoulder top this year, then how about this one?

The Kitten Heel and The Handle

Oh yes indeed. 2017’s power heel of choice (take note, TM) is the kitten heel. I rather like these claret patent heels (kitten-ish) or these are the real deal. And whilst you might think it mad to contemplate sandals now, I bet these would come in pretty handy. As for bags, handles are going to be A Thing (like this or this from Zara and look for ring details, like this from Mango). This [above] combines two of my favourite things: handle detail and cross-body. The ladylike clutch is also going to cropping up of an eve – how chic is this?

Return of the Mac

Now would be the time to pick one up. I’m not sure I can offer you better than this (reduced to £59.99 at Mango). If you want something more unusual, try this khaki flow-y version.
