Shopping the sales: Fashion

The first rule of ‘shopping the sales club’ is don’t talk about ‘shopping the sales club’ (at least not to your bank manager), the second rule of ‘shopping the sales club’ is to look for items with longevity. Forget about those on trend pieces that are nearly out-of-fashion and think long-term. Cashmere jumpers, statement skirts, swimming costumes, fab shoes, a quality coat etc are all great buys. Think about what makes your heart sing and will continue to make your heart sing for years to come and (hopefully) you won’t regret it…..

This year, we’ve decided to round the sales up by shop. So here’s a quick run down of what we have our eye on and think are great buys this season…

BODEN

Boden ace shoes, bags and statement pieces. They also ace sales. Remember that silver sequin skirt that was an insta hit pre-Christmas (pictured above)? Well, it sold out, but is now on sale at half-price. Wear now to parties, on Valentine’s Day for a date and in the summer with a tee and trainers – after all, who said sequins are just for Christmas? Although, wouldn’t it be lovely to wear again next Christmas? Boden make amazing shoes. Great style, great quality, great price. There are a lot on sale, although some sizes are limited, so whilst I can’t mention all my likes, I would go for these leopard print Carrie courts, down from £98 to £33. I have and love (and get lots of comments on) these Alexa heeled boots, now from £98. These pretty flats make me think of Natasha and at half-price are a great deal. Midi dresses are here to stay, so this dress as worn by Natasha on instagram is definitely worth snapping up, I’m tempted myself….

Me + Em

Me + Em is another brand that does amazing sales. It’s also another brand that we love. The cut and quality exceed the price point, whilst the pieces exhibit the attention to detail that elevates the every day into something special. These slouchy merino knit jumpers are amazing. I have the white and black version, which is so soft (although I daren’t wear it near the children). It comes with a detachable snood (love a snood!) so you can wear as a polo during the winter and as a crew neck in Spring. The navy would be on my lust list if I didn’t have too much navy already! These chunky knits are also great as are these layering shirts – great for popping under a jumper for a beautiful collar. These trousers are a fresh and smarter take on the athleisure trend, I think they’d look great with heels and a black top. Finally, I have these jeans in plain denim, the cut is FABULOUS, so if you’re in the market for a coated pair, I’d definitely give them a whirl.

Feather & Stitch

I’m mentioning Feather & Stitch as it’s a boutique that Natasha and I discovered last year after a friend (who lives in the same village as the owner) mentioned it. Boutiques and independent retailers are great places to sales shop, so if you’re looking for something special check your local one (or Feather & Stitch out – ps they’re  not paying us, we just love their stock!). I really like this Deja Vu jumper by Chinti & Parker (also available in grey). It’s still expensive, but OH it’s so beautiful. I’m also rather taken with this jumpsuit by American Vintage. A jumpsuit is a wardrobe staple and a good one will take you anywhere. Wear this with colourful heels, big earrings and a bright clutch. If like Natasha you are a fan of white blouses, this one by new-tom-me brand My Sunday Morning should get your bleepers bleeping. While jewellery lovers will go gaga for this statement necklace. One word? Wow. And, did you know that 2018 is the year of the cardigan. This charcoal grey one is fabulous. You can wear it loose or belt. So cosy and so chic.

WHISTLES

Whistles came back on to our radar this year with some amazing collections of stunning jumpsuits, dresses and tops. Their sale this season is particularly good, especially if you keep next summer in your sights. I have and wore this dress (above) all last summer, it’s so lovely, I can’t believe it’s in the sale! And, this dress (also pictured above) is stunning and perfect for smart events this summer (can someone please invite me to something so I can buy it?) and at £55 (down from £195) it is the very definition of ‘sale bargain’. This navy lace insert off-the-shoulder top is another buy now, save for summer choice, as is this pale blue short sleeve blouse (£29, down from £99). This denim sleeveless ruffle jumpsuit is stunning, I just wish it was in my size! If you’re looking for a fabulous summer dress, this yellow strappy one looks wonderful. And a buy you can wear now? How about a blazer? A good one should be a wardrobe staple, so if you don’t have one, then this could be a good option.

Cecilie Copenhagen at MATCHES

I’m not going to lie, I don’t particularly like trawling the Matches website as there is just SO MUCH STUFF and most of it is way out of my budget. So, I gave up. But, if you have the stamina, there are some good pieces at not-too-crazy a price to be found. I did however, stay long enough to find some lovely pieces by Cecilie Copenhagen. this dress is never going to be a man magnet, but your fashion-conscious girlfriends will love it. I also love this top (pictured above). Those sleeves, sigh. And come summer you’ll be wishing you bought this off-the-shoulder top

HUSH

Hush is another good brand to sales shop, although the website is annoying as a lot of out-of-stock pieces are still listed (c’mon Hush!) However, there are a few pieces to be found (after much searching grrr). Hush is great when it comes to statement sweatshirts, this C’est Si Bon one is a case in point. I have this maxi dress in navy (only the black is in stock) and it is stunning. The fit is ridiculously flattering (I look a size smaller) and it works on short arses (like me) as well as long-legged gazelles! My final pick is this jumpsuit, out of stock in black, but still available in burgundy. Hurrah!

Final mentions must go to this coat from Wallis, which I have and is so warm, it’s like wearing a duvet. I couldn’t do the school run without it. Now £50. And then there’s this jumpsuit, which Natasha has a version of and is fabulous. I think I should snap it up as it’ll be a dream come summer and at £32 is a really great price. This open back frill jumpsuit is also fantastic.
