From my dream J Crew swimsuit via the perfect Mango summer cover-up – and a Jamie Oliver fish stew. It’s a sweet, short weekend lust list from my Cornish holiday
A dream beach uniform
Take one fabulous swimsuit (I am currently sporting this – which is about as chic as maternity swimsuits get on the high street – there is a paucity of choice), but in my dreams I would be wearing this J Crew number which I have seen and adore – but the price makes my eyes water somewhat. Still, this is wishlist, no? And after I fell for it, I saw it recommended by the lovely Laura from Wearing it Today and read on Net-A-Porter that one really should not skimp on swimwear as it has to “take you through the whole season”. So there.) Then add a wide-brimmed hat and one great cover-up (I’ve posted this dress on Instagram but I think it worthy of another mention.)
The perfect venue for a lazy dinner
I’ll be wearing my Mango dress not on the beach this time, but over the bump for my husband’s birthday supper. When in Cornwall, eat on the waterside. Do try your hardest to find a restaurant with a seafront terrace. We discovered The Old Quay House years ago – pre-marriage, pre-baby – and I’ve always longed to stay there (it’s also a boutique hotel).
The summer supper
Regrettably still stuck at work/subject to school holidays (C starts the pre-school at what we hope will be her primary school this September, so we are staring into the money-sucking abyss of school holidays)? Then take a tip from another local-to-me-right-now restaurant, Fifteen at Watergate Bay – which comes highly recommended (better yet – stay at The Scarlet and head to Fifteen for lunch) – and make Cornish Fish Stew.
And for your mini on the beach
I hope you’ve been tuned in to one of our favourite blogs for mamas and their little people, Little Spree – where the brilliant Sarah has been recommending some gorgeous summer outfits. (And check our her Mini Boden competition…) This ruffled bikini is going to make its way into C’s summer wardrobe as soon as I find myself anywhere near a Gap. Love, love, love it. Swimwear does not get any sweeter.
