So easy. So laidback. So effortless. I am hoping that the reality is that quite a lot of thought goes into that apparent insouciance, but having – in the cause of a post – spent some considerable time pouring over Stockholm Streestyle, I have come to the conclusion that Scandi girls tend to have the genes and the knack for dressing well.
Although what I do notice is that they have a bit of a uniform (and you know how we love a Uniform). Simple, well-cut and clean. Nothing fussy or OTT. Hair is considerably less ‘done’ than in many capital cities – and make-up is pretty minimal. (It helps that they all seem to be unfeasibly attractive and have great skin – maybe the skincare is key here; I have tried – and loved – Estelle and Thild.) I also note a preponderance of small and cross-body bags – is this because their cities are so cycle-friendly?
To get the look, I’d head to Baum Und Pferdgarten, Day Birger et Mikkelsen and By Malene Birger. On the high street, make a beeline for & Other Stories and Cos – they both really nail the aesthethic you see in so many streetstyle pictures. Note that the a-lines so beloved of Cos (from tops to skirts) can be tricky on those under 5 ft 4″ – so opt for one or the other e.g. tuck a t shirt into an a-line skirt (this neon pink one is a joy and delight forever) or opt for skinny trousers with your uber-cool Scandi top. And keep accessories to a minimum: sling a bag across your body – this Milli Millu number is utterly covetable but do also try & Other Stories which really does go a and b the c of d when it comes to producing accessories which look designer: this would pep up any outfit and how chic and sweet is this?
