When I say chinos, what are you thinking? Predictable? Comfortable? Safe?….how about fashionable? Well, yes, you heard us right. Chinos are most definitely where it’s at this Spring for people who are bored of jeans but too cold for dresses. So banish those Jennifer Aniston/preppy mom on the school run images from your mind and get set to channel your inner Caroline Issa (yes she above who looks FABULOUS) with a pair of chinos, which don’t only look great, but also offer a very affordable wardrobe update…
The thing is with chinos is that they’re just not that cool, so you have to be careful with what you wear them with to avoid feeling like an American tourist on a group tour of the Colosseum. However, when you do style them well then you could end up looking like Caroline Issa or even Sarah Harris (who may look ever so slightly like she’s channelling All Saints circa 1996, but we loved All Saints circa 1996!)
The key – I think after phd-level research into the subject – is to not wear them too fitted, roll up the ankles if they are on the skinner side or go large (with a fitted or tucked-in top as obviously, who wants to be mistaken for a tent?). I love the way Natasha has styled her khaki wide leg chinos in the picture she posted on Instagram (above). The lace top and khaki are Spring perfection. I also love how the always-amazing Alex Stedman aka The Frugality has styled hers with a Breton in the pic below (scroll down) and the very simple, very chic styling in the H&M picture (directly below) and in the Topshop picture below that. Or dress up with heels (they look great with heels) and you have a surprisingly good look for dinner. Chinos, the most versatile item in your Spring wardrobe? We think they might just be..
