Spring Style: The Best Spring Dresses

Welcome to our week dedicated to spring style. First up: spring dresses. Because: how easy?

Hurrah. It’s April. The cruelest month, according to T.S. Eliot but I’m pretty sure he was speaking metaphorically and, let’s face it, he was something of a misery at times*. Not so, we say. For there is blossom everywhere, the garden is stirring with green shoots of new life, the days are warmer – and longer, and as long as you’re terribly British and carry a brolly, you can totally handle the showers.

[Obviously, I am being horribly flippant and, if, like Eliot, you find the green shoots and resurgence of Spring throws your dark sadness into stark relief and heightens the pain, please forgive me. I am simply talking nonsense.]

Anyway, back to spring dresses…

In order to whittle it down (or I would have been here forever and time is not on my side), the dresses selected had to fulfil the following criteria: nothing too short, revealing, chilly-making (it is only April, after all. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.) Sleeves are a non-negotiable. To make the list, each dress must be able to be flung on in the morning, but also translate to evening, should you suddenly find yourself out, glass of rose in hand. Moreover, if you work in a non-corporate-dress-code office environment, you should also be able to wear them to work. And whilst I didn’t mind allocating a bit of a budget – I don’t want to blow it.

Don’t ask much, do I?

Budget allowing, the dream would be a Rixo dress (this is the Camellia dresstop): beautiful, the right side of alluring, homegrown British design and infinitely wearable. Or, if maxi’s your thing, then head to Lily & Lionel. But if budget does not allow, our edit starts from (just) under twenty English pounds.
