Now this is a brilliant idea. An one-stop online shop for the best independent boutiques in London, London-Boutiques is what every fashion loving woman who doesn’t live in the capital, but loves shopping there, has been waiting for. Curating picks from boutiques such as The Jacksons, Wild Swans and Iris, London-Boutiques is the go-to site for established designers and up-and-coming labels – it really is great. And as Head Buyer for London-Boutiques, Amanda Crossley is responsible for finding all those covetable dresses, wear-every-day jeans and gorgeous tops that once you see, you wonder how you could ever do without.
As you can imagine, Amanda’s wardrobe is a veritable treasure trove of finds. Here, she tells us all about it…
“I don’t really have a uniform as such but I definitely have a look – my daily outifts depend on my mood, the weather, what I am doing that day and how much time I have to get ready in the morning – usually very little! I always like to feel comfortable. Anything too tight or restrictive is not for me and during the day it’s always flats. My J Brand crop indigo jeans, velvet slippers and a pretty blouse from Rebecca Taylor, Goat or Helmut Lang.
I would describe my style as chic with an edge and I love anything slightly unique whether it’s a shape, colour or print. I always like to wear one statement piece, whether it’s a chunky necklace, an amazing jacket or a beautiful print or pop of colour. Over the last few years my style has grown up, I prefer longer length dresses and I spend more money on staples – things that will last from season to season such as cashmere, T shirts, jeans, bags and shoes. I can’t resist a whizz around Zara occasionally for a quick fix but I tend to go off these items after a few wears. I find most of my unique and treasured items in boutiques – it has always been my favourite way to shop. I love discovering labels and gorgeous items that no-one else has.”
The pieces that define my style…
A statement jacket or coat
I always feel a beautiful jacket or coat can make an outift – you can keep everything else very simple – my current faves are an IRO biker style or my new Tsumori Chisato fluro knit coat.
Trousers and jeans
I love a printed trouser – the fit has to be right and all you need is a cashmere jumper or a simple blouse. J. Crew is my go to. Sometimes I keep it simple and chic but more often than not, I’ll add a colourful bag or a my favourite pair of leopard print studded slippers. I don’t like to clash prints with my clothing, it’s too much on me but a printed shoe or bag works. As for jeans, I think 811 J Brands are the best. Simple design, a little stretch and they last and last. I live in mine. I also love my leather trousers from Rag&Bone – dressed down with a big knit and boots or dressed up with a grey vest and a blazer and heels. I couldn’t live without these.
I love blouses from Rebecca Taylor, Goat or Helmut Lang – anything with a bit of detail, a little collar, a ruffle, a tie or a button down back – often jazzed up with a chunky necklace. I also have almost every colour t-shirt and vest from American Vintage – they’re a must for layering under blazers and knits. I can’t live without my grey ones. 360Sweater do beautiful fine cashmere in stripes and fluro colours and for more neutral tones and original shapes Madeleine Thompson‘s cashmere is great and lasts forever.
I find dresses much easier to wear than a skirt and top – they suit me better and they are much more comfortable. A dress is my failsafe for a night out. It makes you feel feminine and sexy. I love something that stands out – it doesn’t need to be OTT, just special with something interesting about it. Nothing too tight or fitted. I wear a longer length these days but it has to be cut at the right place or it swamps me. For weddings Giambatissta or Goat, for parties One Vintage or Dice Kayek , for day Vanessa Bruno or Iro.
I’m obsessed with jewellery but it has to be gold. I never take of my Garrard wing ring, my rose gold watch, my William Welstead engagement ring and my delicate I love you necklace from Felt – which is the most wonderful treasure trove of new and vintage jewellery. I also love big chunky necklaces from Lulu Frost and layer over almost everything day and night. It finishes off an outfit. I also love holiday jewellery – a one piece on the beach with a beautiful necklace with huge stones or strands of beads is so chic.
Shoes & Bags
Shoes and bags are my weakness. I will treat myself to a a couple of pairs of shoes a season and a handbag or two. I put them by my bed so I can see them when I wake up! My most treasured and worn bag is my Chanel which is my night time must have – I will wear it forever. My latest addition is a divine perfectly formed Chloe number in the softest grey leather – cross body bags are the way forward for rushing around with all your essentials. Everything else is chucked into my big navy Celine.
My staple flats are my monochrome slippers from French Sole and when it’s hot my studded Venise Collection sandals and my fluro Nike Air Maxs come everywhere with me. For dinners and parties I wear a heel – I’m obsessed with my Valentino snakeskin pointies and my Alaia mirrored red strappies.
I have been very careful about my skin since I was in my mid twenties – I am shy of the sun and I use hardcore products that exfoliate and plump by Neostrata. I eat lots of salmon and avocados and everything else that’s good for your skin but don’t drink nearly enough water – it’s boring.
I would have my whole house wallpapered in Barneby Gates wallpaper if I could, but I can’t ,so I have a lovely little feature wall covered in gold stars. Kempton market is the best place to find antique and vintage treasures for your home and for anything I need for the kitchen I visit Summerill & Bishop in Notting Hill.
