Pregnancy. So exciting, so blessed, such a special time in your life. So not great when it comes to feeling stylish. At least, not for me. When pregnant, I feel like a whale and struggle to find clothes that not only look good, but feel good too. Most maternity lines seem a little staid in style. Which was why I was so excited when I discovered HATCH, a completely gorgeous clothing company which designs pieces to be worn before, during and after pregnancy. “I started HATCH after giving birth to my daughter Charlie and feeling like there was nothing out there for women wanting to feel chic and beautiful during pregnancy,” explains founder and designer Ariane Goldman. Based in New York (but shipping to the UK – hurrah!) Hatch rocks and is the total anthesis to all those wrap-dress, yummy mummy brands out there (which I’m not knocking, they’re just not me). So thank you Ariane, for making pregnancy dressing as cool as the little person you’re cooking inside.
I am all about one stop dressing.
I don’t love to layer, so a pair of trousers with a cosy sweater can go from meetings into drinks. I’m all about comfort as I think when a woman is comfortable, she exudes confidence and beauty. I obviously wear a lot of HATCH. The clothes aren’t just for pregnancy, but drape-y and billowy allowing me to feel my best. The Soiree dress is my uniform as is the cape, the cashmere joggers on weekends (yum!) and the overalls. I also factor in a Celine tote, Robert Clergerie sneakers (they are like walking on air!) and anything by Sonia Rykiel, Celine and Chloe. For jewellery, I never take off my vintage Van Cleef butterfly necklace my mother gave me and a Carolina Bucci bracelet.
I’m a huge fan of high waisted jeans.. seventies style. I love wide leg jeans and trousers, as I’m a hippie at heart and love how elongating they are. Regarding pattern or plain, I tend to err towards understated elegance, so plain!
I have a Levi’s denim shirt that I wear with everything from cashmere sweatpants to tuxedo trousers. Dark denim can make any outfit cool and spirited.
Saying that, I’m a dress girl. I love long dresses that flow, and you can see that in HATCH as most dresses breeze off the body and allow a woman to breathe. Our newest Sweep Dress and Hang out Dress are best sellers and are perfect for the transition to colder weather. A dress is just so easy..
I love heels, but now that I take my daughter to school each day it’s hard to walk a great distance in them. I have a pair of Marni motorcycle boots that are my sh*tkickers and a pair of Chanel knee high boots that make me feel like a lady.
I’m obsessed with Monique Pean and have two rings from her that I wear every day. When going out fancy, nothing screams more fun than a colorful pair of Irene Neuwirth earrings! I have several Celine totes. They are SO easy and light and open right up so I can throw anything from fabric swatches to Charlie’s artwork. I also love Baggu for everything else. They are rayon and washable and get me through anything!
I tend to put on a blazer to give things a boost and I might add some mascara too since I don’t like to change, it makes things a little more dramatic. I have an Hermes clutch that is great for evening.. Also, a pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos can make any outfit party-ready!
Doll yourself up!! It’s a moment where we are feeling insecure about our bodies so invest in pieces you can feel beautiful and special in.. and wear again!
When it comes to Charlie, I love Makie, Zara Kids, Old Navy and Atsuyo et Akiko. I recently bought her some harem pants from Zara – too cute! A Stella McCartney cape that is so amazing in such a small size – she rides on the back of the bike to school in perfect style!! She also has a pair of OshKosh overalls that I had when I was a kid. They’re TOO MUCH!!
