Have you been watching Ladies of London? If not, you’re missing out. When it comes to guilty pleasures, then this reality TV show set in the British capital is up there with the best of them. It’s brilliantly no holes barred with a high-heeled, high-maintenance cast, which includes American abroad Caprice and British fashion darling Annabelle Neilson alongside an assortment of beautifully-groomed ex-pats. But, it’s most definitely the other Brit of the cast, Caroline Stanbury, who is the star of the show. A no nonsense businesswoman who is not only the founder of Gift Library, owner of The Wedding Shop and one of the best-connected women in the UK, she is quite simply brilliant TV. A mother-of-three with a passion for handbags, she is, unsurprisingly, in possession of one seriously kick-ass wardrobe.
I like easy key pieces that I can mix and match as I hardly have time to put my shoes on in the morning, let alone pick an outfit. For clothes right now I’m wearing a lot of J Brand and Frame jeans, Saint Laurent, Isabel Marant and Current/Elliott for their perfect slouchy everyday T-shirts. I always go for a relaxed, laid-back look that can be dressed up easily with a pair of heels if I’m seeing clients or going to an important meeting.
I think I have about 20 pairs of jeans, and as I have quite short legs I always go for a skinny style. I mostly stay away from patterns as I like to keep things unfussy and clean. I love a good ripped jean too – I’m sure I’m about 4 seasons behind on this but I don’t care. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Because of my shorter legs I usually go for a good mini skirt with flats. A lot of my skirts are leather, as they can be dressed up easily and paired with almost anything. I usually save dresses for a special occasion or night out on the town. As with my skirts, they’re usually mini.
I bought an amazing grey Chanel knee length coat last year, which I return to again and again. All you need is a pair of jeans and a top to pair with it – it goes with practically everything. I also own an amazing leather bomber jacket that I’ve had for few years now. I don’t see the need to buy a new coat every year if I’m still obsessed with last year’s purchases!
I wear heels regularly and tend to bring a pair along with me just in case I need to put them on at a moment’s notice. My favourite shoe designers right now are Gianvito Rossi, Saint Laurent and Aquazzura. Hermes Birkins are a big weakness of mine. They’re definitely my go-to bag.
When it comes to jewellery, I love Anita Ko, Lorraine Schwartz and Sydney Evan. I buy a lot from Gift Library. I get to see everything as soon as it comes in and often get slightly over excited and end up taking a little something home with me.
When it comes to the evening a pair of heels, a smaller clutch and a statement coat tend to do the trick, as well as a bit more makeup if I’m going out straight from work. I try to make a million different looks with the clothes I own, and don’t wear much on repeat without styling it a different way. I like mixing and matching older clothes with newer items to freshen up an outfit, though I do often find myself incorporating some kind of leather into an evening look. Whether it’s trousers, a biker jacket or a mini, it’s a versatile textile that can be worn in so many different ways.
Chanel, Stark and Saint Laurent are my current go-tos for bags.
By the end of the day it’s a chore just to get my makeup off! I just get a good facial every couple of months, so I have to admit my skincare regime is pretty awful.. Is it too late to start?! My make-up essentials include Tom Ford primer, Nars bronzer and YSL concealer and mascara.
H&M, Next and Stella McCartney are great for children. My daughter is currently the face of Cavalli kids so naturally she’s wearing a lot of that right now! I recently bought each of my twin boys Stella McCartney silk bomber jackets with dinosaurs on the back and a cape for my daughter. Before that it was matching Converse for the twins.
