That Seventies Thing

There was some serious Seventies action on the catwalks for Spring 2015. Now, we’re not old enough (just) to have styled it out the first time, so we’re keen to hop on this particular band wagon. But we’re going to keep it simple and opt for these easy shortcuts

Flares. Word to the wise: swapping your skinnies for flares is an instant shortcut to SS2015 style. Note, however, the new way to wear them: slim, sleek and high waisted. Our favourites are from MiH and Zara. Tuck your shirt in (try this silk shirt from Topshop), belt it and wear with a heels. A useful reference point is uber stylist Caroline Sieber. Keep your eyes peeled for a pair which buttons sailor-style – like these from Petit Bateau or these by Vince at Matches.

The skirt. If you have the legs and attitude for it, opt for mid-calf (this is not a length which is my friend). Fabrics du jour are suede and denim. Alex has espied a splendid button-through suede skirt at M&S, but try as I might I cannot source it on their website – we’ll post it on Instagram if we can snap it in store.

The bag and the boot. Think hands-free, cross-body or shoulder, structured. I will be digging out my neat shoulder bags by Tory Burch and Russell and Bromley, but if I was purchasing anew, we love this classic saddle bag in a selection of fabulous Liberty prints. On your feet? Block-heeled boots suddenly feel right again – pull them over thick tights (now) and wear with bare legs and an A-line or midi skirt (when it warms up. Eventually.)
