The Beauty Insider…this is what you need to look hot right now

Yup, we know sometimes you just want to make it out of the house without scaring people, but other times (I’m thinking work/meetings/going OUT)  you do want to look pulled-together, chic and not in the least bit dated. Even perhaps like you look like you know what’s going on in the world. Which is where the fabulous Rachel Fiddes comes in. Having trawled the catwalk reports so you don’t have to, here’s her rundown of what beauty bits you need to buy to look hot right now….

Whatever your beauty style, there was something for everyone on the autumn winter 2014 runways. From glossy nude complexions, soft pale pinks and muted mauves, to rebellious smudged-in morning after kohl, punky metallics and electric blue winged eyeliner. From hard edged beauty to delicate soft shades, pick your look and choose your beauty weapons to get this season’s hottest trends.

Absolutely Flawless

Illuminating Touch Radiance Foundation, £xx, M&S

Illuminating Touch Radiance Foundation, £12.50, M&S

Unusually for winter make-up, less is more this season. Instead of a matte made-up look, the runways were packed with fresh, youthful, glossy complexions, from Christopher Kane and Alberta Ferretti, to Jil Sander and Victoria Beckham. Radiant healthy skin with a dewy glow reigned supreme – the natural look, polished and perfected. However, this requires more effort than it appears, so take notes and add some of these complexion perfectors to your beauty arsenal.

Power brows were big news this season all over the catwalks from Alexander McQueen to Jean Paul Gaultier – the centrepiece of the face, they were darker and more defined than we’ve seen in a while. Boyish and bold at Carolina Herrera, Hugo Boss, Hermes and Chloe, but remember the statement brow is refined in shape and groomed, not wild and unkempt.

Where there’s smoke…

If the smooth steady line of pen liner isn’t for you, then maybe the lived-in, smudged-in smokey kohl eye is more you. The morning after, carefully dishevelled, worn-in eye was seen at Peter Som, Iceberg and Antonio Beradi, while there were smudged smokey greys and midnight blues at Tom Ford (above) and Roberto Cavalli.
