Well, this is a revelation….Me + Em, purveyors of excellent trousers and knitwear, are also rather good at summer dresses. In fact, their spring/summer collection is rather good full-stop….
I’m a big fan of Me + Em. Great cuts, excellent quality and clothes that look and feel just that little bit different from the norm. It’s the small touches that do it; the side stripe here, the dress pockets there….Everything has been thought out and thought through. Yes, it’s expensive, but my gut feeling is that shopping here is worth it. Two of my favourite wardrobe staples come from Me + Em and they are both over four years old. Exhibit one – a pair of jeans that practically everyone comments on. Incredibly flattering and the perfect shade of blue, I’m just gutted that they haven’t made them in other colours. Exhibit two – a simple white shirt with 3/4 length sleeves, broderie detailing and a raised frilled collar. It’s low-key, fits beautifully and I reach for it time and time again.
The dress collection has grown massively this season and I wholeheartedly approve. There are some great day dresses, some which work for err work and play, others which are made for weddings and parties. The blouses and shirts are equally brilliant, simple, but classic pieces that will form the core of your pared down wardrobe. And if you’re looking for trousers, Me + Em is hard to beat. I particularly like the tie waist cargo trousers, although the tailored styles are an excellent choice for the office-based woman. Buy less and you can spend a little more, meaning you’ll end up with a wardrobe you truly love.
