The Ultimate Dressing Up Box?

Pearl Lowe is our kind of (former) rock chick. When she had her brood (she has four children), she put music to one side and returned to her first love – design. It was a way to keep her creative side happy and spend time with her children. With an emphasis on textiles (she’s a vintage-loving fiend), her latest collection is a luxury lifestyle brand for children – Petite Pearl Lowe. And it’s a little girl’s dream come true. (I know one who said, “Wow, wow, wow” when she saw the pictures. Quite a review.)

P.S. Come back soon to read Pearl’s five parenting truths.

What inspired Petite Pearl Lowe?

I’ve been collecting vintage fancy dress costumes for years – as all my children, especially my daughter Betty, love to dress up. However, I found that a lot of the time, my kids wouldn’t wear the costumes as they are too scratchy, so I decided to create some costumes myself using beautiful fabrics such as silk and tulle.

How would you sum it up in 3 words?

Vintage. Magical. Fun.

What’s the theme behind the new collection?

I wanted to create a whimsical theme for this collection, so Lewis Carroll was my inspiration. I think you could call it a bit of a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

And what’s so very special about it?

I think that it stands apart from anything else I have ever seen. It’s definitely a lot more quirky! I employ local seamstresses to create the samples and the collections themselves are made in a factory in London, so I think that also makes it quite unique these days. I’m quite passionate about making this a truly British brand.

Do you have a favourite piece?

My favourite piece has to be the Butterfly outfit. I’ve just made a teen/adult version for autumn/winter; I’m planning a fancy dress party one of these days, just so I have an excuse to wear it!

Do you design with anyone in mind?

It’s definitely my daughter Betty. She loves the clothes and she was the model for our Spring/Summer photoshoot.
