Oh, but there’s a lot of sighing about the sudden end of the hot weather. Yes, the heatwave came to an abrupt end (apologies if you’re now thinking, ‘Err, heatwave? What heatwave?’), but let us embrace September. This autumn, you will mostly find us…
Staying in (with a good book)
Might I recommend William Boyd’s utterly brilliant Sweet Caress – a story of a fascinating life well-lived? Amory Clay is no ordinary women: in pursuit of her dreams she travels to Berlin, New York, France during World War 2. Boyd gives us an enthralling portrait of a century through the lens of Amory’s camera. (Also: embrace the joy of not feeling you have to go out.)
Red lips and cashmere
Could this be the easiest way to look ‘done’ ever? Jeans, cashmere and a slick of red lipstick. Polished and pulled-together. We love everything by Wyse London – I give you this boyfriend cardigan with gold patches in honour of Alex, who works this kind of knit with aplomb. I love the bretons with their button shoulders, or cheer yourself up with a colour pop. This funnel-neck from The White Company is on our wish list, as is this delicious grey marl from Hush. And for the lips? Try Ruby Woo by Mac.
The scent of the season
Why has no one thought of this before? Hats off to The White Company, who have managed to capture the fragrance of leaves underfoot, crisp mornings and apple-picking. Autumn is available now (outside your window and via The White Company). I’ll also be swapping my summer florals for the cinnamon and orange warmth of Winter from 100 Acres and the pine forest hints of Neom’s Perfect Peace.
Because they feel so right already. Wear now with bare legs and eek out the last of your summer tan. Or roll up your boyfriend jeans. Alex and I are big fans of Seven Boot Lane. Classic, good-looking boots with a twist – and you won’t see them on every other pair of feet in town.
