Is there anything better than a weekend away with friends? We, think not, which is why we are bouncing around like puppies at the thought of this prize. Thanks to Sugar & Loaf (whose handpicked collection of luxury cottages in Wales will have you hankering for a holiday), we have a weekend in Hay-on-Wye for you and your family or 5 friends (yes, 6 people in total!) up for grabs – and you can even bring your dog. This chic little town on the Welsh borders is home to arguably the UK’s most famous literary festival and is also one of the prettiest places in the country. And the cottage? Think wood floors, a country kitchen and pure rural perfection…
This gorgeous cottage from Sugar & Loaf is the perfect place to hide away for a weekend. The kitchen is light an airy with a farmhouse table for six, whilst the large bathroom is gorgeous, complete with roll top bath and shower. Three double bedrooms mean that there’s plenty of room for a family, group of friends or 3 couples, whilst the cosy living room is ideal for curling up in front of the fire. Outside there’s a private terrace and lawn for you to enjoy.

Things to do in HAY
Visit The Globe at Hay, an arts and ideas venue that often has something thought-provoking and fun to watch.
Browse the bookshops, Hay is famed for its annual international Literary Festival and there are 30 or so independent booksellers in the town as well as gorgeous independent antique and homeware stores too. Richard Booth started the Hay Festival many years ago and his bookshop now houses a fab Bookshop Cafe which is our top recommendation for Sunday brunch.
Grab a Loaf from the Hay Deli. Alex Gooch bread sells literally like hot cakes from this fab local deli just round the corner from the cottage
Canoe on the River Wye. Head down to Glasbury for coffee in the River Cafe, hire a canoe, paddle in to Hay on Wye and they’ll come and collect you and deliver you back to the cafe for a well earned lunch.
Borrow a Bike, Drovers Cycles in the town have a large range of mountain bikes for all ages for hire. The Black Mountains are dramatically behind the town, perfect for peddling, or pony trekking (also available in nearby Tregoyd).
