In practice, I am not convinced that mine is the life which accords with their pristine perfection. (Fraternise with children; travel to work by tube; by nature rather clumsy….) However, this does not stop me looking at other people wearing white jeans and feeling wistful. Particularly Hanneli and Emmanuelle Alt, the beyond-chic Editor of French Vogue.
Things we must take from the above: white jeans should be worn with heels (I saw a FAB leopard print pair of pointed-toe slingbacks at the Boden A/W press day last week – and will be clicking away come July, when they are available); great accessories; and keep it simple. Witness Alt doing what she does best on another occasion:
See, simple? I reckon it’s doable.
What you need is a perfect, perfectly simple shirt, loosely tucked into your jeans (skinny cropped and boyfriend-fit options below). I seem to have a Donna IDA obsession today – but both these blouses are ideal. IDA – designed by Donna herself – is a fabulous range of wear-anywhere and all-the-time pieces – I LOVE the Mrs Thatcher pussy bow blouse. (Do also check out Equipment silk blouses, as recommended by Matches’ Kate Blythe.)
Alternatively, slip on a chic top (perhaps with an interesting detail twist, like this Cos number) and a little jacket – push or roll up the sleeves for Parisian insouciance.
Just finish with a fabulous necklace – as per Hanneli.
