This Christmas jumper is more than just a madly adorable collaboration between Tootsa MacGinty and illustrator Nadia Shireen. Buy it, and 100% of the profit goes to Refuge, helping women and children escape domestic violence and rebuild their lives. If that’s not the best reason ever to sport a festive jumper, we don’t know what is.The ‘Partying Penguin’ jumper is a collaboration between one of our favourite children’s designers, Tootsa MacGinty’s Kate Pietrasik (come back next week to read her inspiring How I Make it Work) and award-winning illustrator Nadia Shireen (we love Good Little Wolf, with its engaging, witty illustrations and text). Yes, it’s a thing of joy forever – but it’s also a jumper with a heart.
Did you know that one in four women will experience domestic violence at some point? That, in over 90% of incidents, children are in the same or the next room (one in seven children under the age of 18 will live with domestic violence at some point)? That violence begets violence: in over 50% of domestic violence cases, children are also abused. The police receive a domestic violence related call every 30 seconds. 2 women a week are killed by a current or former partner. That it can happen to any woman, from any race or walk of life.
Refuge helps these women and their children to escape. To put their lives back together. You can read more about their work here. And buy Tootsa MacGinty’s fundraising penguin here: it’s available from age 0 to 8 and costs £38 (also available in Selfridges).
On a similar note, GLAMOUR have recently launched their Wall of Silence campaign in association with Refuge and Women’s Aid. Read about it here, and then take a stand.
