The Most-Pinned Kitchen

ff97999e39994f9e55aa6007caf9669aDo you follow us on Pinterest? Alex and I both LOVE Pinterest – we have become addicts. (I introduced my Mum, too – and she has quite the eye for a fabulous interior.) I was browsing it the other evening and noticed that this picture [above – pinned from Design Sponge] has had hundreds of repins. What is it about this shot? And how can you recreate it?

I’m thinking it’s the accessibility: it looks great, yes, but it’s also totally do-able. Your home could actually look like this (whereas other homes are just out of reach for mere mortals who don’t have bottomless budgets/live-in staff/endless space). Also, we’re all a little bit in love with grey, no? Here’s how I’d start recreating this most-pinned room…

Personlised Print

Head to Not On The High Street to design your own – shamelessly romantic or sentimental – print.

I would not put a leather sofa in the kitchen as a matter of course, but it’s an eminently practical choice for a kitchen/playroom/diner area. And I love the idea of having somewhere to perch with views to the garden. If my kitchen was bigger (or didn’t have the most obvious space colonised by child’s accoutrements), I would definitely have some kind of comfy chair or small sofa to curl up on.

Pendant light

You’ll find plenty of options on the high street: try Habitat at Homebase, Ikea and this one from Garden Trading might not be grey, but it is gorgeous. This relatively affordable one from Made has that hip industrial vibe which will turn your kitchen into a hip diner (menu not included).

Opt for something graphic, fun and cheapety cheap – this is the kitchen, after all. You want to be able to throw it in the washing machine, or not mind if someone puts their grubby little hands on it/spills red wine during a raucous evening.

Or not. I mean, it’s a cushion. They just keep on giving. I would never deny anyone the right to splurge on a cushion

Now this isn’t quite up my street – I am all for comfort. But there is no denying it looks very chic and sleek. Obviously, what you want here is Eames but whilst you’re saving up, try this:
